Discovery

As I was out on a morning hike up one of the East Fork canyons, the dogs and I ran into a herd of elk. Probably between 10-15 of them.  My nine year old lab who is as playful as a puppy and still as disobedient as a puppy, chased the elk up the mountain.

In between yelling at my bad dog, I couldn't help but stop and take in the beauty of the moment. Here I was in Idaho, in a canyon all by myself (minus the animals) and watching this herd of elk run in front of me under bright blue skies.  It was like watching my own private version of The Discovery Channel.  Except, instead of a hungry wolf chasing the elk, it was my slow, aging dog. Awesome!

Before I get any nasty emails from elk lovers....my dog finally came back to me and we left the canyon so the elk can finish enjoying their peaceful morning.

I just wish my kids were with me to watch nature at work.
